College Project for Juniors
PURPOSE: While this project serves many purposes, some major areas addressed are…
• To teach students how to search for appropriate college fits.
• To teach students how to research college specific admissions requirements.
• To prepare students for the fall application process.
This project will fully utilize resources on the internet as well as Family Connection. Any words italicized on this page are an actual component of Family Connection. ALL of the information and resources needed for this project can be found through the buttons to your left!
Juniors should have completed the my personality type entitled Do What You Are survey BEFORE starting the project. On the first day of the project, you will be given a folder in which to keep ALL of your college info. Already placed in this folder are:
1. An Unofficial Transcript
2. The College Application Comparison Chart
3. Instructions for logging into CSU Mentor
On to the project…
SECTION 1: Differences in College Systems (Day 1)
• Juniors will be shown the differences between the UC system, the CSU system, out-of-state public, and private colleges in and out of state by using the College Application Comparison Chart. A quiz will follow…
SECTION 2: CSU Mentor (Day 1)
• Using your Unofficial Transcript, fill out the High School Planner portion of your own personal on-line account at CSU Mentor. The directions to access CSU Mentor are given to the students. When finished, print a hardcopy & turn it in to your Theology teacher.
SECTION 3: Family Connection (Day 2: Start w/ a quiz)
• View Scattergrams and analyze.
• Learn how to do an Advanced College Search.
• Fill out My Colleges with 5 colleges you are Interested In Applying To.
SECTION 4: Questionnaire & Parent Letter for the Class of '09 (Day 2)
• Complete our customized survey on Family Connection by inputting data useful for people who will be writing letters of recommendation for you in the fall. When finished, print a hardcopy & turn in to your Theology teacher .
SECTION 5: Spring College Nights (Reminder postcard to follow)
• Attendance at our MC Spring College Night on Wednesday, April 9th, is mandatory.
• Case Studies Night (followed by a college fair) at MC on Monday, April 21st, is HIGHLY recommended for those who plan to apply to private colleges.
• Also: WACAC College Fair @ SSU on Tuesday, April 22nd.
WACAC College Fair @ Dominican University on Wednesday, April 23rd.
COMPLETION: This is a Graduation Requirement. No yearbook will be given until all components are complete. The project should be completed by Monday, March 31st.
