Booster’s Meeting Minutes

September 15, 2008

Present: Michael Lamb, Claire Snyder, Michael Sillman, Mihelle O’Leary,, Nicole Greely, Cindy Arana, Gene Quinones, Caaarol Munson, Ann Anderson, Dobbie Quinones, Pamela Vita, Rick DeMartini, Kim Morgan, Andrea Kmetz, Greg de Surville, Kathleen Woodcock

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 by President Gene Quinones. He began by thanking the Booster’s for supporting the program then asked for a moment of gratitude. The May minutes which were never approved were motioned by Kathleen Woodcock and seconded by Nicole Greely. August 18th minutes were approved by Kim Morgan and seconded by Mike Sillman.

Introductions were made.

MC Golf Classic: Kim Morgan, who has been working tirelessly on the Golf Classic reported that the tournament was sold out. 144 Golfers and 170 for dinner. Fabulous silent auction items and live auction lots would be at the event. Lots of sponsorship Tee Signs and a lot of coaches will be playing in the tournament. Kim was still in need of volunteers for Sign In, Hole In One and raffle ticket sales.

Rick DeMartini - Marin Catholic Hall of Fame Basketball Coach, Rick DeMartini addressed and entertained the Boosters with lively dialogue and stories about his years of coaching our girl’s basketball team since 1991. Under Rick’s guidance, the Girl’s Basketball team has won the MCAL Championship nine times since 1996. His girls have been to the NCS playoffs an amazing 15 times in his coaching career. His team grabbed the Division IV State Championship in 2002. Rick poignantly spoke of the MC traditions and shared with us where his girls have gone on to play in college.

Coaches Reception – Nicole Greely is organizing our Coaches Reception this year. It will be on Saturday, October 11 and Nicole is graciously opening her home for the event. The time will be announced later. Last year we had 100 rsvps and 85 people attended. Freshman parent of J-Vonn Lewis will be doing the menu which will include ribs, oysters, potato salad, cornbread and sausages. The cost will be about $2,000 for 100 people. Varsity Coaches and gold and platinum Booster’s Members will be invited.

Gene Quinones would like to see this event become more of a thank you to our coaches as they do so much for our children.

Membership – Michelle O’Leary gave an update on Booster’s membership. We currently have 189 families who have joined. Our school has 680 famililes; 544 families who have children playing sports. We need to target

More families. A lively conversation ensued as to how to attract more families to become Booster’s supporters. We need to contact non-renewing members and remind them to renew. Gene will assemble a call list of freshman families and we will divide them among ourselves to solicit membership. Due to Archdiocese restrictions, we are unable to do on line registration for Booster’s Membership.

Homecoming - Booster’s need to have a huge presence at Homecoming. At all 3 gates we will have a Booster’s representative to promote sign ups.  Alumni membership will be $100.

Director’s Update – Rick Winter gave us an update on how to request Booster Funds. Cheerleading is hoping for money from Boosters. The Positive Coaching Alliance was very well received by the MC community. Rick received many e-mails thanking him for such an informative evening. A couple of kids were held out of fall games until they successfully completed the on-line course/

Next meeting will be Tuesday, October 21.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30

Respectfully submitted,
